Diablo 4 Content Creator Wudijo Spends 20 Hours Farming Iconic Mythics, Gets Zero Drops
Season 14's reworked Mythic system leaves top players chasing the rarest loot for hours without luck as community debate intensifies over drop rates.

Diablo 4 content creator wudijo has shared the results of what he calls an 'extremely thorough' study on Season 14's new Iconic Mythic drop rates, and the findings have reignited community debate over the rarest loot in Blizzard's ARPG. In a detailed 20-minute video posted this week, the prominent Diablo 4 content creator documented spending approximately 20 hours non-stop farming Helltide bosses—specifically targeting the El'Druin Sword of Justice—in Death Awakening Season, which launched on June 30.
The experiment paints a stark picture of current Iconic Mythic availability. Wudijo accumulated substantial resources over two full days of dedicated farming: 850 lair keys, 900 greater lair keys, and 127 superior lair keys. This boss-farming effort yielded just over 100 regular Mythics, five Mythic Seals, and more than five billion gold—but critically, not a single Iconic Mythic item.
What Changed
Death Awakening introduced significant changes to Diablo 4's rarest loot tier. Iconic Mythics—formerly standard Mythic Uniques—now drop with two guaranteed powers that synergize with each item's unique abilities. This replaced the controversial completely random rolls from the Public Test Realm, where players had no control over which powers appeared on their Mythic items.
However, wudijo's findings suggest the new system has simply shifted the grind rather than reduced it:
What This Means for Players
The community reaction has been swift and largely critical. A Reddit thread calling Iconic Mythic drop rates 'broken' has gathered significant upvotes, with players questioning whether the grind is worthwhile when even dedicated farmers like wudijo come up empty.
Wudijo offered a candid assessment of the current state: 'Most of the time you will have found so many good Uniques that, by the time that you have any realistic hope of getting the Mythic version, that the Mythic most often just ends up being worse, or at least not much of an upgrade in the first place.' He cited his own experience with Eaglehorn for a Rogue build—after finally obtaining a Mythic version, it rolled two sub-optimal stats and became salvage material despite having a viable Unique counterpart already equipped.
For players grinding Season 14, this creates a difficult decision: Is pursuing Iconic Mythics worth the time investment when even top-tier farmers report zero success? The answer increasingly appears to be 'proceed with caution,' especially given Diablo seasons typically last only three months. Regular Mythics and Mythic Seals remain more accessible farming targets, though they lack the guaranteed power synergies that make Iconics theoretically valuable for endgame builds.
What's Next
Blizzard has not yet publicly addressed concerns about Iconic Mythic drop rates in Death Awakening Season 14. The studio's recent communications have focused on Microsoft's acquisition plans and studio restructuring following Xbox's announced job cuts, leaving developers at Blizzard Entertainment without clear guidance on immediate content updates.
Players seeking Iconic Mythics should weigh the time investment against alternative progression paths. While Helltide farming remains 'extremely good' for accumulating regular Mythics and Mythic Seals according to wudijo, those resources may be better spent optimizing existing builds rather than chasing the rarest drops in the game—especially if Blizzard adjusts drop rates based on community feedback.
