Sorcerer Build Tier List — Season 14 (Provisional · 3.1.1)
Updated May 20, 2026 · Post-Patch 3.0.2
Sorcerer is the comeback story of Patch 3.0.2. The class shipped Lord of Hatred with a long list of core spells that simply didn\'t fire correctly — and was effectively shelved as the weakest class in the game by early May. Patch 3.0.2 restored Meteor, Fireball, Chain Lightning, Ice Shards, and Hydra, re-enabled The Oculus, and the post-patch endgame list now shows four S-tier builds. Ball Lightning Orbital remains the highest-DPS build in the game.
Patch 3.0.2 — Sorcerer Recovery. Meteor, Fireball, Chain Lightning, Ice Shards, and Hydra all had bugged interactions restored to working order — patch language was broad because the bugs were broad. The Oculus is re-enabled with its damage and cooldown bonuses functioning. The Vox Omnium aspect\'s trigger behavior was also corrected, which unblocks several conjuration-leaning setups. Result: Sorcerer climbs back into the S+ class slot on the consolidated tier list.
Ball Lightning Orbital is the highest-DPS build in the game post-3.0.2 — already strong pre-patch, and now playing on a Sorcerer kit whose other spells finally work. Top pick for Pit pushing and Echo of Mephisto.
Chain Lightning Sorc
Direct beneficiary of the 3.0.2 Sorcerer fix pass. Chain Lightning bounces and damage numbers are restored to design intent, putting the build firmly back in the endgame conversation as a top-end clear-speed option.
Charged Bolts Sorc
Bolts-spam lightning build that thrives on the restored Sorcerer skill interactions. Strong AoE saturation, with the kind of screen-clearing density Sorcerer was missing before the patch.
Ice Shards Sorc
Frozen-target multiplier build that's back online after 3.0.2 corrected Ice Shards' damage and bonus calculations. Excellent single-target and a long-standing Sorcerer flagship archetype.
Blizzard Sorc
Ground-AoE cold build. Solid endgame option with the cold-tree fixes in place, though it lacks the raw burst of the lightning S-tier picks.
Firewall Sorc
Ground-DoT fire build leaning on stacked Firewall casts. Pit-friendly but slower to ramp than the S-tier picks.
Hydra Sorc
Patch 3.0.2 fixed Hydra's broken interactions, but the archetype still trails the meta. Functional now where it wasn't before, just not competitive at the very top.
Meteor Sorc
Meteor was a 3.0.2 fix-list headliner, so the spell works again — but the build still ranks at the bottom of the endgame list. Cast time and reliance on enemy positioning hold it back.
Frozen Orb Sorc
Classic projectile cold build. Plays smoothly but doesn't scale into top-end Pit content the way Ice Shards or the lightning builds do.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best Sorcerer build in Patch 3.0.2?
Ball Lightning Sorc is the strongest, with Chain Lightning, Charged Bolts, and Ice Shards joining it at S-tier on the post-3.0.2 endgame tier list. Ball Lightning Orbital remains the highest-DPS build in the game.
Did Patch 3.0.2 fix Sorcerer?
Yes. Sorcerer was the centerpiece of Patch 3.0.2. Meteor, Fireball, Chain Lightning, Ice Shards, and Hydra all had their bugged interactions restored to working order, and The Oculus unique was re-enabled with its damage and cooldown bonuses functioning as designed.
Is Meteor Sorc good now?
Meteor was a headline fix in 3.0.2 so the spell works correctly, but the build still ranks at D-tier on the endgame list. Cast time and positioning requirements hold it back even with the bugs cleared.
Is Hydra Sorc viable in endgame?
Hydra is functional post-3.0.2 — its interactions were repaired — but it ranks at C-tier. Playable but outclassed by the lightning S-tier picks at the top of the Pit.
Is The Oculus re-enabled?
Yes. The Oculus was disabled prior to 3.0.2 because it was failing to grant its damage and cooldown bonuses to the next cast. With those interactions restored, the unique is back in the loot pool.
Which Sorcerer build should I start with?
Ball Lightning Sorc remains the smoothest leveling and endgame option. Charged Bolts is a strong alternative for lightning AoE, and Ice Shards is the established frozen-target single-target pick.
