Whirlwind Barbarian — Endgame Build Guide

Whirlwind Barbarian is the marquee build of Lord of Hatred. It creates Dust Devils as the channel runs. The expansion brought a channeling rework, the Bursting upgrade node (converts Whirlwind damage to Fire and burns enemies), a Gohr's Devastating Grips overhaul, and four-weapon multiplicative scaling — making the build a strong Pit pusher and Echoing Hatred option.

S-tier placement: Whirlwind sits at S on the Barbarian endgame tier list alongside Minion Barbarian. Self-spawning Dust Devils unlock at level 15 — usable in leveling, Pit, Tower, and Echoing Hatred.

Core Skills

Whirlwind (Bursting upgrade)

Primary skill. Channels continuously, scales off all four weapon slots, generates Dust Devils that AoE around you. Bursting node converts damage to Fire and burns enemies.

Iron Skin

Defensive cooldown + barrier source. Scales with Maximum Life.

Challenging Shout

Damage reduction + Fortify generation. Always on cooldown.

Rallying Cry

Movement Speed and Resource generation. Pre-cast before pulls.

War Cry

Damage multiplier window. Pop before bossing or dense pack engagement.

Leap (movement)

Map traversal + small AoE. Optional swap with Charge depending on map.

Rotation

Pre-pull Cast Rallying Cry, Challenging Shout, and War Cry before engaging — all stack additive multipliers and Fortify.

Engage Leap or Charge into the pack. Activate Iron Skin for the barrier window.

Sustain Channel Whirlwind. Dust Devils auto-spawn. Keep moving to pull more enemies into Gohr's grip range.

Refresh Re-cast shouts on cooldown. Re-pop Iron Skin between elite hits. Tibault's Will rewards every Unstoppable window with damage and resource for 5 seconds — keep Challenging Shout on cooldown for steady Unstoppable uptime.

Is this build viable for Echoing Hatred?

Yes, it is one of the best Echoing Hatred picks. The Overwhelm bar tracks live enemy count, and Whirlwind plus Dust Devils chews through dense packs continuously. Pair with Tibault's Will charm, Iron Skin, and shouts for survivability through the late tiers.
