Diablo 1 Classes

Three base heroes plus the Hellfire Monk. Choose your champion and descend into the labyrinth beneath Tristram.

⚔️

Warrior

Str 30 · Mag 10 · Dex 20 · Vit 25

A Tier Skill: Repair

The unbreakable wall. Highest HP, strongest melee damage, and the Repair skill. Designed for players who want to face Hell's demons toe-to-toe. In endgame, Warriors become nearly unkillable tanks — but need Stone Curse and Teleport from spell books to survive Hell difficulty.

🏹

Rogue

Str 20 · Mag 15 · Dex 30 · Vit 20

A Tier Skill: Trap Disarm

The ranged specialist. Kite enemies from a distance with bows while using spells for crowd control. Dexterity boosts both damage AND armor class. The safest class for clearing Hell difficulty in skilled hands — but lower HP means mistakes are punishing.

🔮

Sorcerer

Str 15 · Mag 35 · Dex 15 · Vit 20

S Tier Skill: Staff Recharge

The undisputed king. Spell damage scales with character level and spell level (unique to Diablo 1), while Magic fuels a massive mana pool that Mana Shield turns into effective HP — making him both a top damage dealer AND the tankiest class. Staff Recharge means unlimited spell casts.

🥋

Monk

Str 25 · Mag 15 · Dex 25 · Vit 20

A Tier Skill: Search (innate)

The Hellfire melee specialist. Fights with a quarterstaff whose sweep hits up to three enemies at once, with blistering attack speed and Dexterity that adds damage as well as block. The catch: the lowest Armor Class in the game and a modest life pool — a true glass cannon. Hellfire only.

Base Class Comparison

The three base-Diablo classes side by side. The Hellfire Monk (Str 25 · Mag 15 · Dex 25 · Vit 20; caps 150/80/150/80) is the expansion's fourth class — see its guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best class in Diablo 1?

The Sorcerer is widely considered the strongest Diablo 1 class. Spell damage scales with character level and spell level, while a huge mana pool (fed by Magic) converts into effective HP through Mana Shield — making the Sorcerer both a top damage dealer and the tankiest class in the game.

What is the easiest class for beginners in Diablo 1?

The Warrior is the most beginner-friendly class. High starting HP, simple melee gameplay, and the Repair skill make him forgiving for new players. Just pump Strength and hit things.

Do all classes use spells in Diablo 1?

Yes. Unlike Diablo 2, every class in Diablo 1 needs spells to survive Hell difficulty. Stone Curse and Teleport are essential for all three classes. Spell books are found as loot or purchased from Adria.
